Manufactured Home Cabinet Repair-Loose Doors Print E-mail

If cabinet doors become loose,  try tightening the screws that hold them.  In many cases this will fix the problem.  However, if you find that the screw(s) just turn without tightening, the threads are stripped and more effort will be required to fix the problem.

Get a piece of wood dowel and cut lengths equal to the depth of the screw holes.  Use a chisel or screwdriver to split the dowel into small pieces.  Then fill the hole with carpenters glue and hammer the wood pieces into the hole until it is tightly filled.  Let it dry for a couple of days.  Matches, not wood dowel,  have been the usual wood filler material, but not everyone keeps wooden matches around these days and matches are made of such soft wood they don't provide the holding power available by using wood from a hardwood dowel.

After the glue has had time to dry, sand the repair flush with the surface and drill a new pilot hole for the hinge screws.  Then reattach the door(s)
